Organization profile

CIPROG-UCV is the Research Group affiliated with the Academic Area of Health Sciences at Universidad César Vallejo, Piura Campus. It is dedicated to generating and transferring knowledge that improves health and well-being, in alignment with SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being. The group is composed of faculty members, students, and health professionals, and addresses priority health problems in Piura and northern Peru through an equity-based, intercultural, and rights-focused approach. It promotes rigorous research and fosters partnerships with health institutions, local governments, and community organizations. The relevance of the group is supported by persistent challenges in mental health—such as affective disorders, stress related to extreme events, substance use, and stigma—and in health policy and management, including access gaps, waiting times, continuity of care, quality, and resource efficiency. In this context, high-quality local evidence is needed to guide clinical, organizational, and policy decision-making, while also strengthening the capacities of the university community and the wider territory. The general objective of the group is to produce applied and transferable knowledge to optimize mental health outcomes and improve the performance of health services. Specifically, CIPROG-UCV: identifies needs and determinants of mental health using mixed methods; designs, evaluates, and implements cost-effective and culturally appropriate interventions; analyzes processes, workflows, and performance of health services (quality, patient safety, and efficiency); develops recommendations for decision-makers (policy briefs, guidelines, and dashboards); and trains human talent with competencies in research and social responsibility. These actions are aligned with the group’s research lines: Mental Health —screening and community-based care, stigma reduction, treatment adherence, and psychoeducational and digital interventions. Health Policy and Management —organization and financing of services, economic evaluation, information management, process improvement, and clinical governance.
