Abstract
The research addressed the puzzle of statistical attitude and its impact on the research competencies of Peruvian university students. Through an explanatory quantitative approach, the relationship between statistical attitude and research competence was evaluated in a sample of 148 students majoring in education. It was found that 75.7% of students displayed a negative statistical attitude, while 35.1% exhibited deficient research competence. Analysis of predictor dimensions revealed a significant influence of cognitive and affective factors on research competencies. Overall, the model demonstrated satisfactory predictive capacity, confirming that negative statistical attitude influences the research competencies of university students.
