Abstract
Currently, due to the great worldwide demand for the use of hydrocarbons, serious impacts are caused on fertility, properties and land use, as well as people, flora and fauna. This systematic review aims to analyze studies on the bioremediation of soils contaminated by hydrocarbons using animal manure through the use of the PRISMA methodology in order to collect information that describes the effectiveness of animal manure in the bioremediation of soils contaminated by hydrocarbons. According to the results obtained, cow and bird manure are the most used, presenting 21-99% and 80-96%, respectively, of the percentage of degradation of hydrocarbons in soils. Likewise, the African continent was the one that had the greatest number of studies because it is an area rich in oil. It is concluded that the use of animal manure is an effective, efficient and reliable technique for the removal of hydrocarbons in different types of soils and its percentage of degradation would improve by adding bacterial amendments or plant species.
