    Abstract

The Social responsibility is a fundamental basis for the development of current societies, characterized by an accelerated loss of values that threatens children and adolescents, a generation that outlines the future of our Latin American realities. Based on this affirmation, this work is designed as a central objective to characterize the concept of social responsibility from the educational field, specifically at the level of basic education. From the methodological perspective, the research is qualitative, descriptive and documentary; It begins with the revision of documents, drawing from it essential elements for addressing social responsibility in the field of basic education. The results indicate that there are clearly identified dimensions and actors from the literature, which must assume their role and work to enhance the quality of teaching at the basic level. The State must value the teaching activity, and recognize it as the true engine of the country's development; Families, grant true meaning and value to education, be it at basic or other more advanced levels, since their sons, daughters and represented require accompaniment in these formation processes; Educational Institutions commit and fight to recover spaces, contributing significantly to the quality of teaching as a practice of social responsibility.
