Abstract
Water is essential for human survival; industrial processes, population growth and its concentration in urban areas generate about 380 billion tons of wastewater in the world. Microalgae, recognized for their great efficiency in the treatment of these effluents, make it possible to change the focus from a make-take-waste economy to a circular one; that is: reduce, reuse, recycle and regenerate. The objective was: To document the bibliometric aspects of wastewater treatment using microalgae. The methodology was a systematic review of literature between 2014 and 2024. The search was made in databases such as Scopus, Scielo, PubMed, Wiley Online and Taylor & Francis, identifying 44 articles for analysis; in addition, inclusion and exclusion criteria were established following the Prisma methodology. Conclusion: Wastewater treatment using microalgae is a promising solution for its recovery, making it possible to eliminate pollutants and, in addition, mitigate the environmental impact in a transition towards more sustainable practices.
