Abstract
The use of contaminated river waters for crop irrigation represents a significant risk to human health and the environment. The presence of pollutants such as toxic heavy metals in these waters can cause serious consequences, including the accumulation of these substances in food and soil degradation. This article focuses on bibliometric analysis to reveal the impacts of the use of contaminated river waters in crops, to make known the existing scientific production in this field, including studies on the effects on human health and the environment, as well as sustainable alternatives for irrigation. Using programs such as Rstudio, Excel and VosViewer, data obtained from Scopus were analyzed during 2010 to 2024. Currently, the use of contaminated river waters in crops represents a serious variety of harmful contaminants in soil and food, with harmful consequences for human health and the integrity of ecosystems. Among the main risks are exposure to heavy metals, pathogens and dangerous chemical compounds. In this study, the most relevant advances and trends that have emerged in the last decade in this field were analyzed. Likewise, the most prolific authors with the greatest impact on the subject are identified, highlighting China (12021), Turkey (684) and Spain (1787) as the countries with the highest production of publications.
