Abstract

This study was developed in the line of research related to penitentiary phenomena. The context of the study was the Latin American region. The variables analyzed were the resocialization programs and their respective impacts. The objective of the research was to evaluate the effects of resocialization programs on female inmates and former inmates of penitentiary centers, analyzing the theoretical models used, as well as examining the problems that women face in the resocialization process. The research design was secondary-documentary, taking existing sources of information. The structure used the PRISMA declaration. The search engines used were Web of Science, Scopus, EBSCO, Scielo, ScienceDirect and Pubmed. The initial search result resulted in 1,688 articles, of which, under the selection criteria, 21 studies were chosen. The result was that the resocialization programs were deficient and weak in preventing recidivism. The programs did not consider the needs of the gender and the surrounding risk factors. It is concluded that it is necessary for resocialization programs to be built from a gender perspective that respects fundamental rights, promotes labor reintegration and prevents relapse into criminal behavior.
