Abstract
Introduction. The ongoing environmental degradation demands the development of ecological awareness from an early age. Schools can play a central role through active pedagogical strategies that modify students’ attitudes and behaviors towards environmental protection. This study evaluated the effects of a program designed to raise environmental awareness among students. Objective. To evaluate a pedagogical strategy aimed at intensifying secondary school students’ environmental knowledge. Materials and methods. A quantitative approach and a hypothetical-deductive methodology were used. A quasi-experimental design applied a 20-session awareness program to 33 and 31 students from a population of 222 students, who formed the control and experimental groups, respectively. A 40-item questionnaire was employed to investigate the cognitive, affective, conative, and active dimensions, achieving a Cronbach’s Alpha of 0.941. Results. The data were processed using RStudio, showing a highly significant change (p<0.05) in these dimensions compared to the control group, with 80.6% of students reaching outstanding levels of environmental awareness. Conclusion. The implemented environmental awareness program positively transformed attitudes and behaviors towards ecological protection, demonstrating its usefulness as a pedagogical strategy promoting sustainability in the classroom.
