Abstract
Methanol intoxication is a rare cause of optic neuropathy, whose spectrum of involvement ranges from transient dyschromatopsia to severe and irreversible loss of vision due to optic atrophy. We present the case of a 17-year-old male patient who, after the intake of methyl alcohol, developed severe metabolic acidosis with central nervous system involvement and critical loss of vision. Despite having received the therapeutic scheme in the intensive care unit, visual recovery was very poor. We discuss the therapeutic options and the importance of knowing the prognostic factors in this entity.
