Abstract

The aim of this research was to explore the occurrence of Burnout Syndrome in health care workers. Working with reliable databases such as: Scopus, Ebsco, Scielo, and Redalyc. The sample consisted of 30 articles characterized by containing data on the causes, consequences and theoretical models of the variable. The results show low pay, long working hours, lack of adequate protective equipment, fear of being infected and emotional exhaustion as causes of burnout. On the other hand, low job satisfaction, constant absences, below average performance, muscular tension are evidenced; the most used theoretical support are the proposals of Maslach and Jackson. It is concluded that long working hours and workload predispose to the suffering of burnout syndrome, generating absenteeism, dissatisfaction, listlessness, low productivity, predisposing to economic crises. All this is related to the three-dimensional theory of burnout.
