Abstract
The rates of violence and insecurity in Lima-Peru, are the issue of greatest concern for citizens. The objective of the study was to analyze the social representations regarding the citizen insecurity that the students of universities of Lima live. The referents of the study are Moscovici (1979) extended by Jodelet (1984). The study had a qualitative approach, with a phenomenological design. The sample consists of students from state and private universities applying semistructured interview. It concludes that fear, vulnerability and the process of victimization has exposed students to changing attitudes, being constantly alert to what is happening around them.
