Abstract

The increase in agricultural waste such as vegetables and fruits has become a problem for society because in developing countries, there are no adequate collection centers for their reuse, and the lack of clean energy is a problem. The population must provide a solution to reduce pollution levels. The reason why this research provides an environmentally sustainable solution is the use of single-chamber microbial fuel cells using purple cabbage waste as fuel. Peaks of potential and electrical current of 2.967 ± 0.341 V and 7.538 ± 0.248 mA were generated on the twelfth day. These values were found when the cells operated at a pH of 7.06 ± 0.21 with an electrical conductivity of 112.314 ± 5.415 mS/cm. Likewise, it was possible to obtain 545,772 ± 12,511 mW/cm2 of power density at a current density of 4,298 A/cm2. These values give the first results for scaling up this type of substrate, which can be very beneficial for farmers and companies.
