Resumen

This study emerges from the role of the university professor who must assume as a component of the new approach of the university in Latin America of the XXI century, for which the objective of the investigation is to carry out a reflection on the ethical-social commitments, which derive from the profession to meet the demand of society. For this, the documentary review was used as a methodology, seeking the hermeneutic analysis with criteria of evaluative criticality. The teaching ethical values are exposed, as a reason for the modeling of the students and the communities themselves through the research and extension work of the university professor, which converges in the third mission of the university, in order to face the social and ethical commitment of teaching work, underpinned in two directions: transfer of knowledge, and contribution of the university to the defense of human rights, peace and democracy.
