N2 - In fact, the World Health Organisation has sounded the alarm about the dependence that digital technologies impose on human beings, distracting and damaging the normal development of their daily activities [1]. This warning is a consequence of the exponential and almost traumatic use of social networks, web communication, online communication, among others. Under these circumstances, the objective of the study was to find an answer to smartphone addiction in the university population of an emerging country - Peru 2023. In terms of methodology and due to the characteristics of the study, a quantitative approach was used, a descriptive non-experimental design, in which a total of 376 students from 4 universities representative of the Piura Region participated. The results of the study showed that one of the possible responses to smartphone addiction are precisely certain socio-demographic factors related to age, gender, level of education, as well as the use of this technological equipment is increasing and goes hand in hand with the emergence of new social interaction apps.
