Resumen

Affective syndromes (depression, anxiety) and stress are mental health problems that also have repercussions in the academic context, particularly in university students, with adverse effects on performance and more severe mental disorders, such as dropping out of school or suicidal ideation. Among the various therapeutic modalities that stand out for their effectiveness in intervening in these syndromes, mindfulness is currently one of the most popular. The objective of this research is to analyze the effectiveness of mindfulness in affective syndromes and stress, for which a meta-analysis was carried out in which information was extracted from 8 scientific articles, selected from the Scielo and PubMed search engines. It was found that mindfulness has a moderate effect when applied to treat depression (d=.66, 95% CI [.30–1.30]), large for anxiety (d=.88, 95% CI [.56–1.21]) and a moderate effect for stress (d=-.71 [95% CI:-1.15–.28]). It is concluded that mindfulness-based intervention constitutes a valuable therapeutic tool for the benefit of the mental health of university students, reducing symptoms of depression, anxiety, and stress.
