N2 - 10% of the waste generated in Peru corresponds to packaging made of hard plastic, plastic bags, PET plastic and expanded polystyrene. These residues impact the environment especially in the soil and water where they remain for a long time as they are not biodegradable. On the other hand, there is a preference for changing the use of products with ecological characteristics. Containers are one of the items widely used to pack food in its various presentations, and must be reusable, recyclable and biodegradable in order not to contaminate the environment after use. Thus, the objective of the investigation was to elaborate containers from a Carya illinoinensis (pecan) shell as raw material once they are used as waste. For the process of making these containers, two mixtures are made: one of 50 g of Carya illinoinensis peel with 25 g of pectin from and another of 50 g of Carya illinoinensis peel with 30 g of pectin. The results show that the container made with 50 g of shell and 30 g of pectin presented better conditions and properties. The characteristics of the containers were: maximum tensile strength of 26.6 kg. F/cm2, oxygen permeability of 8.95 cc/m2 and microbiological safety, water absorption 48.93% in 2 days. They also comply with the health indices regarding metals such as Cadmium, Lead, Chromium, Barium, Mercury, Arsenic, Antimony, Selenium, Nickel and Cobalt. Regarding the microbiological parameters of total Coliforms, Salmonella and Escherichia Coli, they were found below the parameters established in the NTP 399.163-1:2017. From these results, it is concluded that the containers made with residual shell of Carya illinoinensis (pecan) have the characteristic to be used as food containers with ecological and environmental advantages.
