Resumen

Currently, mental health problems have increased in vulnerable populations, especially in adolescents, affecting their personal development. Objective: To determine the relationship between learned hopelessness and family dysfunction in university students in Lima-Peru, 2020. Methodology: A quantitative, cor-relational, cross-sectional, non-experimental design study. Pop-ulation: It was composed of a sample of 122 students from a university in northern Lima. The Beck et al. (1974) Learned Hopelessness test was applied with 3 dimensions: Loss of Mo-tivation, Feelings and Expectations about the future, with 20 items and a dichotomous Scale and perception of family dysfunction with 3 dimensions: Cohesion, Communication and Family Adaptability, with 24 items and a Lickert scale. both in-struments were validated reaching a reliability of 0.9% Cron-bach’s Alpha and KR 20 0.85. Results: They evidence a high correlation between learned hopelessness and family dysfunction in students; likewise, in the dimensions: adaptability of family dysfunction, cohesion and learned hopelessness in students, a significant correlation was found. Conclusions: Family dysfunction and hopelessness are phenomena that increase the risks to the emotional and psychological health of the person, being an obstacle to their potential development of professional compe-tencies and improvement of quality of life.
