Resumen
In order to prepare the systematic review on the effects of educational video games on academic performance, the PRISMA technique was obtained to identify 30 publications that met the exclusion and inclusion criteria. Four study questions were proposed. The final result showed that video games are didactic instruments capable of imitating learning environments to improve academic performance and enhance social skills, problem solving, communication and critical thinking. Also, the best genres of video games for education are the serious or instructional ones. Finally, it is debated whether educational video games can be used to improve academic performance.
