N2 - Global terrorism is a serious and critical global problem that needs to be treated in a holistic manner considering global indexes for comparing the respective situation in each country or state. In that way, the Institute for Peace and Economy proposed the Global Terrorism Index, which is explained in this chapter. This chapter contains the following sections: (a) introduction, (b) the construction of the index, (c) views and applications, and (d) discussion. The introduction section includes: (a) a brief description of the global problem generated by the terrorism, (b) a general idea of the Global Terrorism Index (GTI), (c) the COVID-19 pandemic’s impact on terrorism, (d) the diverse socio-economic indicators which are related to terrorism, and (e) the effects of terrorism and GTI on the national and international economics and the diplomacy.The construction of the index section contains the following information: data sources of the index and the methodology for the construction of the index. The views and applications section details them at the international and national levels. Finally, the discussion section summarizes the gaps of the GTI critically and presents the conclusions and recommendations for future research.
