N2 - Bourdieu’s approaches (2000; 2006) have been fundamental in defining symbolic violence as part of social dynamics, where the logic of domination is reproduced, under the permissive gaze of various social actors. It is accepted, therefore, that violence has a historical and cultural trajectory, which has given rise to the consolidation of a patriarchal paradigm, which normalizes the subordination of women. In this order of ideas, the article aims to analyze the violence exercised symbolically and through the media against women in current societies, considering the legal and regulatory specificities of the international community and Peru. The research design is qualitative, with the application of the hermeneutical-documentary method. Among the main findings, it is argued that the prevalence of violence against women in international settings and in the internal system of Peru is part of a mechanism that excludes, denigrates and denies women’s access to their basic rights. It concludes with the need to break social structures, giving way to the construction of a different rationality and the creation of alternative lives, more in line with the social changes required by Peruvian society.
